Write a Book Awards Night 3rd may One thousand pupils, teachers, parents and parents converged on the Montague Hotel in Portlaoise to celebrate the publication of 1, books by pupils from Schools in the Midlands in the Write a Book project. Don who has supported the project for the last 8 years said that it was not just the number of books published that was significant, it was the quality of the work of all involved. Don entertained all present with dramatic stories and beautiful drawings. Many people went home with Don's drawings on books, envelopes and any paper available.
Hundreds of young authors converged on the Montague Hotel Portlaoise for an Awards Ceremony, where certificates and prizes were handed out by Don Conroy, artist, author and television personality.
Niamh Campion, Chairperson of Laois Education Centre complimented all the pupils, their teachers and parents for their wonderful work and welcomed Don Conroy and thanked him for his ongoing support.
It is an opportunity for us to say thank you to all the pupils, teachers and parents and all who are involved with you in producing your books.
Books of every variety and are from diverse cultural backgrounds, including travel books, stories, poetry, history, sport, cookery, and many others, with imaginative and brightly coloured illustrations.
The Gaelscoil Phortlaoise also participated with books written in Irish. This year three schools entered books as Gaeilge which was books they had produced as part of the Leabhar Beag project.
